A fast-growing retail and distribution business is seeking a Operational Accountant to join their Germiston-based team. Reporting to the Assistant Financial Manager, you will add value through strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and daily problem-solving. Your mandate covers multiple areas of the finance function, giving you regular opportunities to improve processes, resolve system queries, and support the overall commercial success of the business. Key Responsibilities Supervise Accounts Payable functions, review creditor reconciliations, and resolve complex payment queries. Review and approve financial transactions on the accounting system to ensure correct VAT treatment and account allocation before posting. Prepare SARS reconciliations and submit monthly SARS returns (PAYE / VAT, etc.) across all company entities to ensure strict tax compliance. Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and apply basic accounting principles to analyse routine cost variances. Establish and maintain internal financial controls across the business, including the coordination of group-wide stock-takes. Generate regular financial reports and prepare required documentation to support both internal and external audit processes. Qualifications & Experience BCom Accounting degree with 2 to 5 years of practical accounting experience. Completed accounting articles are highly advantageous. Practical experience managing commercial accounting functions, ideally within a retail, product-driven, or distribution environment. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to create and analyse financial reports. Hands-on experience operating Microsoft Dynamics or similar advanced accounting systems.
