About The Organisation And The Role ZS Architects is a Cape Town-based architectural practice located in the historic Bo‑Kaap. They are known for delivering thoughtful and practical design solutions across a wide range of sectors. Their current portfolio includes a group housing estate, apartment blocks, a retirement complex, industrial projects, and private residences. They are looking for an experienced Architect and an Architectural Technician to join their growing team. Main Duties & Responsibilities Architectural Technician Technical Drawings: Develop detailed technical and construction documentation including preparing blueprints, drawing, and producing accurate design documentation using Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp. Regulatory Compliance: Prepare drawings, and ensure designs comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and zoning laws, for Council Submission and regulatory approvals. Collaboration: Coordinate with consultants, engineers, and contractors. Site Supervision: Attend and participate in site meetings and inspections. Conceptual Development: Contribute to design development and produce 3D renderings when required. Architect Designing Structures: Creating functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing building designs that meet client needs and comply with regulations. Client Consultation: Meeting with clients to understand project goals, budget, and vision, and translating that into architectural plans. Project Planning: Developing detailed project plans, including timelines, materials, and cost estimates. Technical Drawings: Preparing blueprints, drawings, and technical documents using CAD software or by hand. Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring designs comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and zoning laws. Collaboration: Coordinating with engineers, contractors, surveyors, and other professionals throughout the design and construction process. Site Supervision: Visiting construction sites to ensure work is progressing according to plan and resolving any design‑related issues. Sustainability Considerations: Incorporating eco‑friendly and sustainable design principles where possible. Problem‑Solving: Addressing design challenges and client concerns creatively and efficiently. Continuous Learning: Keeping up to date with industry trends, new materials, and technological advancements in architecture. Required Skills & Experience Work experience and industry exposure. Minimum 8 years’ experience as an Architect / Architectural Technician. Strong understanding of local building codes and municipal processes. Experience with commercial, residential, and industrial projects. Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with team members and external stakeholders. Confident in client‑facing and site coordination tasks. Excellent Administration and Organisational Skills. Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks. High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation. Works well under pressure. High proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and MS Office Suite. Bonus: experience with 3D rendering software and graphic presentation tools.
