Maintenance Specialist Position The Maintenance Specialist will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and automated systems within our structural steel fabrication workshop and broader manufacturing facility. We are looking for a highly skilled, hands‑on technician, such as a Mechatronics Technician, Millwright, or experienced Fitter and Turner, who can handle general plant maintenance while playing a key role in optimising our automated processes. You will identify and implement improvements that increase manufacturing speed, reliability, and efficiency. You will work closely with the production team to keep operations running smoothly. Occasionally, you will also be required to work at heights for maintenance tasks. Key Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, and automated systems, including CNC machinery. Conduct maintenance and repair work on machinery such as FANUC, Siemens PLC systems, Peddinghaus, and Ficep (prior experience with these is a major bonus). Carry out general plant maintenance across the entire manufacturing facility, including mechanical and basic electrical systems. Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, machinery reliability, and overall production speed. Provide ideas and help implement new system upgrades to enhance facility efficiency. Collaborate with production and automation teams to drive continuous improvement and minimize equipment downtime. Conduct maintenance at heights as required, strictly adhering to safety protocols. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues quickly. Maintain accurate maintenance records and generate reports on equipment performance and repairs. Requirements Proven experience in a hands‑on industrial maintenance role, ideally within a manufacturing, heavy industry, or structural steel fabrication environment. Strong mechanical and fault‑finding skills; qualified Mechatronics Technicians, Millwrights, and Fitters and Turners are highly encouraged to apply. Understanding of CNC machinery (experience with Siemens PLC, Peddinghaus, and Ficep systems is considered a strong advantage). General facility maintenance experience, including pneumatics, hydraulics, plumbing, and basic infrastructure repairs. Ability to work at heights and safely perform overhead maintenance. Familiarity with safety regulations (OHS Act) and best practices in an industrial setting. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Qualifications Diploma or equivalent technical qualification in Mechatronics (e.g., National Diploma / N6). OR a Recognised Trade Test / Red Seal (Millwright or Fitter and Turner). Note: This is a strictly hands‑on, factory‑floor position. Additional certifications or practical experience in PLC systems, CNC machinery, or process improvement are a great advantage.
