Role Description This is a full‑time hybrid role for a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area, with some flexibility for remote work. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead and manage mechanical engineering projects, including mechanical building services design, systems optimisation, and the integration of energy‑efficient solutions. The successful candidate will also be responsible for leading and executing mechanical commissioning activities for Data Centre projects in South Africa and across Africa, ensuring all systems meet design specifications and operational requirements. The role involves project planning, design management, research and development, thermal modelling using Designbuilder software, and ensuring projects adhere to performance and quality standards. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders will be a key aspect of day‑to‑day responsibilities. Experience and Qualifications Expertise in Mechanical Engineering with a strong background in HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) design. Proficiency in Computer‑Aided Design (Designbuilder) software and design tools. Proficiency in heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation design, equipment sizing and selection (chillers, AHUs, pumps). Experience with building automation systems and SCADA. Experience in project management, including planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects. Knowledge in research and development (R&D) processes and an ability to innovate engineering solutions. Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Ability to work independently and in a hybrid work environment, with effective communication and collaboration skills. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus. Professional registration as an engineer (Pr. Eng) with a recognised engineering body is required. Experience in energy‑efficient systems, alternative energy, or green engineering is an advantage.
