Job Title Business Development Associate: Commercial Growth & Strategic Implementation Location Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape Remuneration Market-related Working Hours Monday – Friday - 40 hours per week. Role Overview The Business Development Associate: Commercial Growth & Strategic Implementation is responsible for driving commercial growth across SSISA by identifying, developing and securing external business opportunities, strategic partnerships, sponsorships, grants and revenue-generating initiatives, while also supporting implementation of approved growth initiatives across departments where these contribute to organisational priorities. The role retains primary responsibility for external business development and commercial utilisation of SSISA services, with particular focus on HPC and Blue Floor opportunities, while incorporating selected implementation responsibilities necessary to improve conversion of opportunity into organisational delivery. In addition to external business development responsibilities, the role supports implementation of selected strategic projects by assisting with coordination, opportunity packaging and progression of initiatives linked to SSISA’s commercial and institutional growth objectives. Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Management, Commerce, Business Administration or similar. 3–5 years’ relevant experience in business development, partnerships, sales, project coordination or commercial growth. Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and progress them toward implementation. Preferred Requirements Post Graduate qualification in Sport Science, Biokinetics, Sports Medicine, Marketing, Commerce or related field Experience in sport, healthcare, rehabilitation, wellness or education sectors. Experience working across multidisciplinary teams or complex organisational environments. Key Performance Areas Lead Generation & Opportunity Identification Identify new business opportunities within sport, health, wellness, education and related sectors. Build a pipeline of potential clients including professional sports teams, schools, academies, federations, corporates and medical partners. Conduct outreach through meetings, networking events and targeted prospecting. Proactively identify tenders, grants and partnership opportunities. Business Development Pipeline & CRM Manage business development pipeline and CRM systems. Track prospects through full sales lifecycle from initial contact to closure. Develop quotations, proposals and partnership packages. Support negotiations and contract closure. Sponsorships, Grants & Funding Development Identify and pursue sponsorship opportunities. Develop sponsorship packages and funding proposals. Maintain relationships with funders and sponsors. HPC Commercial Development Lead commercial utilisation of HPC Blue Floor and related facilities. Collaborate with HPC biokineticists and sports scientists to package services. Grow non-peak occupancy and external bookings. External Partnerships Expand CHIPS and education-linked external partnerships. Identify scalable service offerings linked to SSISA expertise. Budgeting & Revenue Forecasting Track revenue targets and forecast commercial performance. Contribute to budget planning for external growth initiatives. Strategic Project Support & Implementation Support implementation of approved growth projects linked to external opportunities or strategic priorities. Assist departments in packaging services into commercially viable offerings. Coordinate internal stakeholders where new business opportunities require cross-department execution. Monitor progress of selected growth initiatives and elevate barriers where implementation delays occur. Internal Collaboration & Growth Support Work with departmental heads to align external opportunities with operational capability. Support selected strategic initiatives where business development and implementation intersect. Assist in identifying under‑utilised services and opportunities for institutional growth.
