An Amazing Career Opportunity for Firmware Engineer Job ID: 43848 Location: Durban, South Africa As a Firmware Engineer at HID, your role will be instrumental in designing and implementing the future of cutting‑edge secure embedded firmware applications. This position will report to the Engineering Manager and be part of a team of five, collaborating cross‑functionally with global engineering teams. Essential Duties Design and implement new embedded firmware applications. Develop and maintain low‑level interfaces and existing code base. Document low‑level concepts and provide cross‑functional training. Consult with colleagues to assess interfaces between hardware and embedded solutions. Investigate and resolve reported defects promptly, ensuring timely solutions. Communicate effectively, providing regular updates and addressing team needs. Primary Duties Support the design and development of innovative products in collaboration with global teams. Assist with technical discussions, code reviews, and process development. Participate in evaluation of hardware and embedded solutions. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization. Essential Qualifications Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree, BTech, or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Experience: 1‑5 years of hands‑on code development experience. Language Skills: Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Skillset: Proficiency in embedded C, C++, or Python. Familiarity with hardware‑level drivers (GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI). Strong knowledge of source code management and configuration. Understanding of test frameworks and automated build systems. Analytical, planning, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Ability to work independently and complete design tasks with minimal supervision. Basic understanding of the software development life cycle, including design, architecture, and implementation. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or higher in Engineering or related field. Experience in a high‑technology or manufacturing organization. Experience leveraging RTOS in very low‑power embedded development (knowledge of FreeRTOS, Keil RTOS, TI‑RTOS). Experience with Jira / Confluence. Background in low‑power embedded system design. Hardware development experience. Experience leveraging AI‑assisted development tools to enhance productivity, debugging, and documentation. Practical RF experience, especially with UHF and Bluetooth technologies. Understanding of production workflows and manufacturing processes. Experience with regulatory compliance. Experience in designing and developing test fixtures. Why Apply?
