Our client is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Supervisor with advanced Sage 300 People experience to oversee and manage the payroll department and supervise a team of three Payroll Administrators. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and time‑ous processing of payroll, maintaining payroll compliance, improving payroll processes, and acting as the company’s Sage 300 People Super User. This role requires strong leadership ability, advanced payroll knowledge, excellent reporting capabilities, and strong Excel and Google Workspace skills within a fast‑paced and deadline‑driven environment. Payroll Processing & Administration Manage and oversee the full payroll function for weekly and monthly payrolls. Ensure accurate processing of: Salaries and wages. Overtime. Commission structures. Bonuses and incentives. Leave processing. Travel and subsistence claims. Garnishees and deductions. Medical aid and provident fund contributions PAYE, UIF, and SDL calculations. Review payroll input captured by Payroll Administrators before payroll finalisation. Ensure payroll deadlines are consistently achieved. Verify payroll balancing and reconciliations prior to submission. Manage new employee onboarding and terminations on the payroll system. Ensure all payroll changes are properly authorised and supported by documentation. Handle complex payroll queries and escalations professionally and efficiently. Sage 300 People Super User Responsibilities Act as the internal Sage 300 People Super User and primary system support resource. Manage payroll system configurations and user access controls. Troubleshoot payroll system issues and resolve system‑related queries. Assist with Sage 300 People upgrades, patches, testing, and implementations. Maintain payroll workflows and ensure system optimisation. Create and customise payroll reports and extracts. Ensure payroll system integrity and accuracy of payroll data. Liaise with Sage consultants and external service providers where necessary. Train payroll staff and users on Sage 300 People functionality and best practices. Support ESS functionality and employee self‑service queries where applicable. Assist with integrations between payroll, biometric, HR, and time & attendance systems. Team Management & Supervision Supervise and manage a team of three Payroll Administrators. Allocate payroll responsibilities and monitor workloads. Review the quality and accuracy of work completed by the payroll team. Provide coaching, mentoring, and ongoing training to staff. Conduct regular performance feedback and team support. Ensure adherence to payroll procedures and internal controls. Assist with resolving team challenges and operational issues. Compliance & Legislative Requirements Ensure full compliance with: BCEA. SARS legislation. UIF and SDL regulations. PAYE requirements. Employment Equity reporting requirements. Bargaining Council agreements where applicable. Manage EMP201 and EMP501 submissions and reconciliations. Coordinate IRP5 processing and year‑end payroll procedures. Ensure payroll audits are completed accurately and time‑wise. Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information. Keep up to date with payroll legislation and industry changes. Prepare payroll reports for management, finance and HR departments. Reconcile payroll reports against finance records and general ledger accounts. Assist finance with month‑end payroll journals and reconciliations. Analyse payroll variances and investigate discrepancies. Prepare headcount, overtime, leave, and cost analysis reports. Generate ad hoc payroll and HR reports as required. Excel & Google Workspace Responsibilities Payroll reconciliations. VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP functions. Data analysis. Payroll reporting. Formula‑driven reporting templates. Work extensively on Google Workspace including: Google Sheets. Google Docs. Google Drive. Shared reporting and collaboration tools. Improve payroll accuracy, efficiency and turnaround time. Requirements Matric / Grade 12. Minimum 5 years payroll experience. Minimum 2–3 years’ experience supervising a payroll team. Proven experience as a Sage 300 People Super User. Strong understanding of South African payroll legislation. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills essential. Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
