Overview Transmission Specialist (Intermediate to Senior) Qualifications National Certificate Level 4 (N4) / Grade 12 (Required) HCIP Transmission or similar (level desirable) A sound understanding of ICT industry practices and frameworks (MEF, TMForum etc) University Degree in Electrical Engineering, B. Tech or Engineering Diploma At least 4 years experience is required in transmission with an emphasis on active fibre equipment i.e. (SDH, DWDM, OTN etc.) Extensive knowledge in wireless transmission networks Knowledge of the active fibre technology landscape Design and/or support of MPLS, WDM, SDH, PDH and IP networks Strong knowledge of OTN (DWDM) concepts Understanding of SDN networks Understanding the Regulatory and Legal landscape (ICASA) Management of fibre and microwave service providers and vendors Knowledge and understanding of wireless and last mile transmission networks including PtP and PtMP microwave, LTE and TVWS Planning, designing and implementation of fibre optic networks (Core, Aggregation and Access) Providing support to internal teams and customer technical teams on active fibre equipment Understand the wayleave application process Knowledge of civil works and trenching standards (duct laying/manhole construction etc.) Knowledge of fibre optic cable blowing methodologies Budgeting and compiling BOQs for transmission networks Utilising GIS (Geographic Information System) applications Using planning tools for fibre and microwave systems Excellent problem-solving skills Strong analytical skills Result oriented NMS systems and functions Internal and External Customer Relationship Years of Experience Minimum 3 plus years of relevant working experience Technical understanding of a system being analysed and how it affects the various business units Business requirements conceptualisation and implementation Sound understanding and experience on multi-vendor IP systems Strong experience with regards to the integration of networks with 3rd party systems Able to work well with both internal and external clients and within a team Understanding of corporate governance principles Responsibilities Be the resident Technical Expert on the Transmission portfolio within the company Lead and drive customer and technical engagements pertaining IP Networking Be able to work with multivendor networks Be familiar with the latest technology evolution in IP networking domain Design and implement robust solutions for customers, taking design best practice frameworks into consideration Work with various Subject Matter Experts in developing and implementing best of breed solutions Be fully skilled and well experienced in the various modules and functionalities Multi-Vendor Verification (MVV) and Technical Scope of Work (SoW) Conduct MVV (Multi-Vendor Verification) checks between the networking platform and other vendor platforms that need to be integrated with This will be done with the vendors/OEMs, to ensure inter-operability and compatibility of the systems Based on the Business Analysis, Requirements Specification and MVV, create a technical Scope of Work (SoW) for the successful design, implementation, integration and testing of the solution The SoW is to be agreed to and approved by all relevant parties (e.g. Vendors/OEMs, Subject Matter Experts, Customer etc) High Level Design (HLD) Based on the agreed SoW, create a High-Level Design (HLD) document that covers the high-level solution overview, system architecture, system functionality, roles and responsibilities, dependencies, assumptions, constraints and the Bill of Materials specific to the IP network that is designed for the customer Low Level Design (LLD) Based on the HLD, create a Low-Level Design (LLD) document that describes the end-to-end network solution, based on the business requirements received from the customer and the agreed Scope of Work, at a lower level of detail relative to the HLD The content must cover the functionality system, integration touch points down to interface level as well as the data format of the information that the relevant external sub-systems of the customer will use to communicate The LLD must provide the specific low-level information for example communication protocols, port information and IP addresses, that will allow the technical integration team to successfully configure and integrate the required solution as per the customers scope User Acceptance Test (UAT) document Based on the Low-Level Design (LLD) document, create a UAT document that covers all the various test cases/use cases that the system was designed to deliver as per the specification and customer requirements Secure approval of the UAT document from all the relevant stakeholders (e.g. Vendors/OEMs, Subject Matter Experts, Customer etc) Implementation Conduct pre-implementation MVI (Multi-Vendor Integration) between the company platform and other vendor platforms that the system needs to integrate with This will be done with the vendors/OEMs, prior to customer on-site deployment, to ensure that the on-site deployment is done First Time Right Lead in the implementation, integration, customisation and UATs of solutions within the customers network Ensure all system change control is effectively managed and captured with the relevant documentation being updated 2nd Line Support Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support on IP network systems that are under a company support and maintenance contract Training Provide/Evaluate/approve training material for existing and new systems #J-18808-Ljbffr
