About The primary purpose of this position is to manage underwriting of new and renewal Mid‑Corp Business within Santam corporate property. The role leads and effectively manages a team of underwriters, contributing to sustaining and growing a profitable book of business. Responsibilities Key Functions Enhance the SCP brand and foster a corporate culture that promotes sustainable ethical practices. Support all SCP financial and growth objectives. Help achieve marketing and growth goals in line with company objectives, including Santam Specialist Solutions Growth initiatives. Manage underwriting file operations to support efficient Risk Administration. Maintain company underwriting standards based on Insured’s Loss Ratio, Risk Concerns, Policy Loss Limits, Deductibles, and other relevant information for renewals. Assess risk via analysis of reports, discussions with internal/external risk managers, and implement risk improvement recommendations. Engage in technical analysis and negotiation of policy wordings. Implement and negotiate facultative reinsurance, monitor placements, and check pertinent information. Prepare Technical Rating Reviews, Client Risk Profiles, Claims history reviews, and Final Checklists for renewals. Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development. Consult management regarding unique or unusual risks to minimize adverse risk selection and maintain portfolio quality and profitability. Stay updated on industry trends, developments, regulatory changes, and competitive analysis. Ensure team compliance with all relevant binder and mandate terms and conditions. Ad Hoc Functions Support Executive Head: Underwriting and Risk. Regular staff performance management and reporting. Other ad‑hoc duties to assist the department. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 7–10 years’ experience leading and underwriting mid‑property corporate industrial property. Matric; a business degree is beneficial. 7+ years’ mid‑corporate property experience. IISA or equivalent professional qualification. Successful completion of RE Examination. Comprehensive understanding of insurance legislation. Experience with insurance operating systems. Skills Administrative and analytical skills. Attention to detail, client orientation, and communication. Initiative, teamwork, and time management under pressure. Broker relationship management and network skills with national and international brokers. Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Microsoft platforms.
