EQUIPMENT OPERATORS 1. Job Overview We are seeking experienced and safety-conscious Equipment Operators to join our Backfill Project team within an open cast coal mining environment. The successful candidates will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of heavy mining and earthmoving equipment in support of rehabilitation and backfilling activities. The positions require disciplined operators with proven mining experience, strong operational awareness, and a commitment to maintaining high safety and productivity standards on site. Equipment includes: Excavator Grader Roller TLB Dozer Front End Loader (FEL) 2. Key Responsibilities Operate allocated machinery safely and efficiently in accordance with site procedures and operational requirements. Conduct daily pre-start inspections and complete equipment checklists. Ensure machinery is operated within manufacturer specifications and site safety standards. Perform loading, hauling, levelling, grading, compacting, excavation, rehabilitation, and backfilling activities as required. Identify and report mechanical defects, unsafe conditions, and operational hazards. Maintain housekeeping standards around work areas and equipment. Adhere to all Mine Health and Safety Act requirements, client procedures, and company policies. Work closely with supervisors, safety personnel, and maintenance teams to achieve operational targets. Ensure proper care and responsible use of company equipment. Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions. Maintain productivity while prioritising safe operating practices at all times. 3. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 / Matric certificate will be advantageous. Valid competency certificates/licences for the specific equipment to be operated. Minimum 3 years’ operating experience within mining, earthworks, rehabilitation, or open cast operations. Proven experience operating heavy earthmoving equipment in a mining environment. Sound understanding of safe operating procedures and mining safety standards. Ability to conduct basic daily equipment inspections. Good communication and teamwork skills. Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous. Medically fit to work on a mining site. 4. Advantageous Experience on open cast coal mining rehabilitation or backfill projects. Multi-skilled operators capable of operating more than one machine. Valid induction certificates for major mining houses. First Aid or safety-related training certificates. Experience working with GPS machine control systems. Knowledge of production and rehabilitation standards within mining operations. 5. Key Competencies Strong safety awareness and hazard identification ability.
