We are seeking an experienced and skilled AIX Unix Engineer to manage and maintain our IBM Power Hardware and Infrastructure Software. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting our Unix and Linux-hosted business applications, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of the AIX operating system and related infrastructure. This role involves strategic evaluation of operational efficiencies, implementation of best practices, and providing technical leadership for system administration, storage integration, disaster recovery, and automation. Key Responsibilities: AIX System Administration: Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain IBM AIX operating systems (7.x or later). Manage user accounts, roles, and access permissions. Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and diagnose OS, hardware, and middleware issues. Dual-VIO Server Setup & Management: Create and manage Dual Virtual I/O Server (VIO) environments. Configure Shared Ethernet Adapter (SEA), NPIV, and Virtual Fibre Channel (vFC). Manage client LPAR connectivity to twin VIO servers for load balancing and redundancy. Perform Dynamic Logical Partitioning (DLPAR) and Live Partition Mobility (LPM) operations. Maintain and test VIO server failover for high availability. Integrate and manage EMC PowerMax/VMAX/PowerStore/Unity storage arrays with IBM Power Systems. Configure Storage Area Network (SAN) zoning, LUN masking, and multipathing (MPIO/Power Path). Increase and manage AIX LPAR storage volumes. Monitor storage performance, plan capacity in conjunction with storage teams, and troubleshoot connectivity issues. Disaster Recovery/System Backup: Set up and manage AIX backups using mksysb, TSM/Spectrum Protect, or similar tools. Conduct system recovery tests and maintain documentation. Support Disaster Recovery (DR) site replication and failover testing. Automation & Scripting: Develop and manage system automation shell scripts (ksh/bash). Automate patching, monitoring, and provisioning processes. Implement infrastructure management automation using Ansible or PowerVC. Tracking and Optimizing: Utilize performance monitoring tools such as nmon, topas, HMC Performance Monitor, and EMC Unisphere. Analyze performance statistics, suggest tuning improvements, and plan for CPU, memory, and storage capacity. Documentation & Compliance: Maintain up-to-date documentation of system configurations, network diagrams, and storage mappings. Adhere to ITIL standards for incident, problem, and change management. Comply with company security and audit policies. Continuously evaluate operational efficiencies and leverage best practices for improvement. Required Skills and Qualifications: Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent. Relevant tertiary qualification. IBM AIX Power Certification. Minimum of 3 years of technical leadership experience in a Unix/Linux environment. Minimum of 5 years of experience in hardware and software implementation and customization (build and run), as well as managing operations support teams providing 24/7 support for all systems. ITIL V3 certification or above. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with other Unix/Linux operating systems. Knowledge of cloud platforms. Experience with containerization technologies.
