For more information, please visit Job Description SA Steelworks has an opportunity available for a highly experienced Technical Specialist to provide technical support across both the Rolling Mill and Meltshop and other identified business units. The successful candidate will have extensive working knowledge of steel manufacturing operations and will be responsible for identifying, diagnosing, and resolving technical and mechanical issues, to ensure optimal plant performance and reliability. Key Responsibilities Provide technical support to both Meltshop and Rolling Mill operations as well as identified business units Identify, diagnose, and repair faults on machinery and equipment Optimise plant performance through continuous improvement initiatives Support maintenance teams with troubleshooting and root cause analysis Ensure plant equipment operates efficiently and safely Assist with the implementation of upgrades, modifications, and new technologies Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence Role Requirements The ideal candidate must demonstrate proven working experience in the following areas: Melt shop Experience Induction melting processes Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF) Continuous casting machines Automatic level control systems Material handling equipment (wide range) Refractory operations and furnace maintenance Cooling systems (water and oil) Rolling Mill Experience Bar rolling processes Two-high and three-high roughing stands Intermediate and finishing rolling equipment Bar handling systems Shears and pinch rolls Reheating furnaces (oil-fired) Minimum Qualifications & Experience Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering 10–12 years’ experience in a steel manufacturing environment Strong hands‑on technical and troubleshooting capability Proven experience across both Meltshop and Rolling Mill operations Key Competencies Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to work under pressure in a demanding production environment High level of technical expertise and attention to detail Good communication and teamwork skills Proactive and results-driven approach Please note that the successful candidate will receive a formal, written offer of employment after all applicable pre-employment checks have been completed.
