The School of Physics at the University of the Witwatersrand invites applications for the position of Senior Lecturer in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. We seek an experienced candidate whose research aligns with and complements the activities of the Materials Physics Research Institute, which are broadly organized into three thematic areas: (a) Materials for Energy Applications, (b) Low-Dimensional Materials, and (c) Novel Quantum & Applied Materials. In particular, candidates with substantial experience in low-temperature and low-dimensional physics and expertise in the operation and maintenance of cryogenic systems (including cryostats), microscopic characterization instruments, electrical transport measurement systems, and deposition equipment is essential. Experience working with a dilution refrigerator will be considered an added advantage. The School of Physics, the largest in the country, engages in internationally competitive research within very diverse fields, including experimental and theoretical high energy physics, materials physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, photonics, space propulsion and physics education. The School hosts the Materials Physics Research Institute with significant experimental infrastructure, the Mandelstam Institute for Theoretical Physics, the Institute of Collider Particle Physics, and the WitsQ Research Group focused on quantum technologies. Qualifications and Requirements A PhD in Physics; Postdoctoral research experience with a good publication record and evidence of independent research . Teaching experience and involvement in the supervision of postgraduate students are an advantage .
