Maintenance Technician job vacancy in Somerset West A renowned Engineering company is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join their team on a full-time permanent basis in the Helderberg Area, Cape Town. Position Overview The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the fabrication, installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of structural and pressure-related components within the facility. The role supportsoperational uptime by ensuring all fabricated and mechanical structures are safe, compliant, and reliable. The position focuses on welding, fabrication, structural repairs, pressure vessels, piping systems, and mechanical plant modifications to support maintenance, breakdown response, and continuousimprovement initiatives. Requirements and Key Skills NQF Level 4 or equivalent Recognized Boilermaker Trade Test (Red Seal preferred) Additional trade exposure (Millwright / Fitter / Welder) advantageous Minimum 3–5 years post-qualification experience in a maintenance or industrial environment Experience in fabrication, welding, and plant maintenance Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and statutory requirements Strong welding skills (MIG, TIG, ARC) Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans Knowledge of pressure vessels, piping systems, and structural fabrication Competent in fault finding and repair of mechanical/structural failures Basic knowledge of mechanical systems (pumps, compressors, HVAC advantageous) Experience with maintenance systems (SAP advantageous) Good planning and execution of maintenance tasks Self-motivated and able to work independently Strong problem-solving ability High level of accountability and ownership Attention to detail and quality workmanship Ability to work independently and within a team Good communication and reporting skills Ability to work under pressure and respond to breakdowns Physically fit to perform manual mechanical work Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and components Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces Exposure to industrial environments, noise, and heat Work at heights, confined spaces, and plant rooms Willingness to work shifts and standby as required. Key Responsibilities Perform fabrication, welding, and repair work on:Structural steelwork and supports Pressure vessels, tanks, and piping systems Sheet metal components and enclosures Plant guards, frames, and mechanical structures Conduct inspections and identify defects, wear, and failure points Perform fault finding and root cause analysis on structural/mechanical failures Execute preventative maintenance and repairs in line with maintenance plans Carry out modifications, upgrades, and plant improvements Assist in installation and commissioning of new equipment and systems Ensure all welding and fabrication work complies with relevant standards and specifications Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records Support breakdown response to minimize downtime Supervise contractors and ensure quality and safety compliance Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions in all plant areas Ensure compliance with OHS Act, company procedures, and safety standards Participate in standby duties and overtime as required Report on the condition, functionality, and risks associated with mechanical plant and equipment Support other departments as required Perform any other related ad hoc duties as required Applying for Position Only open to South African citizens.
