The role will be based at our groceries division in Randfontein. The Purpose Of The Role To perform planned, preventative and reactive maintenance on mechanical, electrical and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of production. The role focuses on high‑quality technical execution in line with engineering standards, safety requirements and maintenance systems. Duties & Responsibilities Maintenance & Repairs Perform routine, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in line with schedules and manufacturer specifications. Diagnose faults using inspection, testing, and measurement techniques, applying structured problem‑solving methods. Carry out overhauls and ensure equipment is restored to safe operating condition. Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimise production downtime. Planned Maintenance Execution Execute assigned work orders accurately and within required timeframes. Prepare equipment for maintenance by ensuring safe isolation, access, tools, and spares availability. Conduct post‑maintenance testing, inspections, and handovers to operations. Support continuous improvement of planned maintenance routines to enhance reliability. Installations, Modifications & Improvements Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of machinery and equipment under engineering supervision. Provide practical input into reliability improvements and execute approved corrective actions. Identify opportunities for design or process modifications to reduce recurring faults. Participate in improvement projects to reach world‑class manufacturing standards. Spares & Inventory Management Identify, request, and manage critical spares to ensure availability. Record spares usage and report shortages to maintain optimal stock levels. Support development of spares strategies to reduce downtime and costs. Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Comply with all SHEQ policies, procedures, and legislative requirements. Apply safe working practices including lock‑out/tag‑out, correct PPE usage, safe lifting, and good housekeeping. Identify, report, and act on hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions. Ensure all work complies with quality, hygiene, and food‑safety standards. Documentation & Systems Accurately complete job cards, time sheets, and maintenance records in the CMMS. Record parts used, work completed, and observations on recurring faults or risks. Contribute to improving CMMS data accuracy by updating equipment history, failure codes, and maintenance strategies. Provide feedback to planners and engineers to enhance the effectiveness of the maintenance system. Problem‑Solving & Reliability Apply structured problem‑solving techniques (e.g., root cause analysis, 5‑Whys, fishbone diagrams) to eliminate recurring faults. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement corrective and preventive actions. Monitor equipment performance and recommend reliability‑focused improvements. Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimise asset lifecycle and reduce unplanned downtime. Training & SME Development Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for specific equipment or processes. Train and mentor fitters, apprentices, and junior artisans on technical skills, safe practices, and CMMS usage. Share knowledge of equipment operation, fault diagnosis, and best maintenance practices. Support competency development programs to build a skilled and versatile maintenance team. Stronger problem‑solving focus (structured RCA, continuous improvement). CMMS improvement responsibilities (data accuracy, feedback loops, system optimisation).
