Location: Western Cape Industry: Fintech / Payments About the role A high-growth fintech business is looking for a Business Development Executive to drive new business acquisition within the formal merchant segment. This is a highly execution-driven, field-based role focused on onboarding established businesses such as restaurants, coffee shops, salons, and retail outlets onto payments and POS solutions. The role suits a strong hunter profile — someone who thrives on winning new business, building pipeline from scratch, and consistently hitting targets. Key responsibilities Drive new business acquisition within the formal merchant segment. Identify, target and onboard new merchants aligned to growth targets. Generate leads through cold calling, walk-ins, referrals, and networking. Conduct on-site sales visits and product demonstrations. Convert prospects into active, transacting merchants. Sell and position payments and POS solutions based on client needs. Guide merchants through onboarding, setup, and activation. Maintain a structured and active sales pipeline. Track activity metrics (calls, visits, demos, conversions). Ensure accurate CRM updates and reporting. Gather market insights and competitor intelligence. Represent the brand professionally in all client interactions. Requirements Strong new business sales ability with a clear hunter mindset. Comfortable operating in a field-based, target-driven environment. Ability to build rapport quickly and influence decision-makers. Strong objection handling and negotiation skills. High levels of resilience, consistency, and self-motivation. Structured approach to pipeline management and admin. Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to explain technology products in a simple, practical way. Experience and qualifications 3–5 years’ experience in outbound / new business sales. Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets. Experience in fintech, payments, POS, banking, or merchant services is advantageous. Experience in field sales is highly preferred. Additional requirements Valid driver’s licence. Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned region. Comfortable working in both formal and informal trading environments.
