Qualifications & ExperienceMatric (Grade 12)N4 Mechanical (preferably including Strength & Materials, Mechanical Trade Theory, and Mathematics)Trade Test: Tool and Die MakerMinimum 35 years relevant experience as a Tool and Die MakerKey Duties and ResponsibilitiesDesign and manufacture jigs and templates as production aidsVisualise and calculate metal shapes and tolerancesRead and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, schematics, and modelsPrepare templates, sketches, and determine work processesCompute dimensions, tolerances, and set up machine toolsPosition, secure, measure, and machine metal or castingsMeasure and mark metal for machiningSet up, operate, and maintain machine tools including milling, drilling, grinding, boring, and shaping equipmentVerify components using instruments such as verniers, callipers, micrometres, CMMs, and electronic devicesCut, shape, fit, assemble, and disassemble tooling components using hand toolsPerform filing, grinding, and shimming to ensure smooth finishesAssemble and fit press toolingConduct routine die maintenance, refurbishment, and improvementsAttend to breakdowns, identify faults, and resolve press issues with minimal downtimeConduct try-outs for new and modified press diesInspect finished tools and dies for defects, smoothness, and contour accuracyIdentify spare part requirements
