Overall Purpose of Job Perform Database Administration functions with administrator rights Performs Release Management and Version Control function Support both the BAS production environment users and the development environment on DB2 for z/OS, MVS and CICS. Provide reports and recommendations to supervisor and management, on system performance and improvements. Provide guidance to developers on SQL coding. Report risks and Database unavailability to Supervising DBA. Main Responsibilities / Tasks Authorization of TSO user-ids and granting of the relevant privileges to specific tables within certain production departments’ databases. Monitoring of production reports to ensure that all scheduled reports do not exceed the agreed execution time and to improve the throughput of reports on the BAS system. Provide support to end users of the MVS environment. Work effectively as part of the team and support team’s goals. Identify problems and bring them to supervisor’s attention with sufficient lead time to avert crises. DB2 performance and tuning suggestions. Release Management functionality. Administration Responsibilities Database Quality Assurance and reviews of all SQL Code for programs destined for release to production. Periodically perform standby duty – respond to any DB2/CICS/VSAM problems experienced by production departments, as well as the maintenance team members. Extents setup and analysis of DB2 tables and VSAM files in production and continuous monitoring and rectification thereof. Monitor and suggest possible optimization ideas of online transactions. Continuous improvement of any procedures used within platform support and operations support. Creation and setup of new DB2/CICS/VSAM objects when a new department is implementing the BAS system. Monitor VSAM splits and schedule VSAM and database reorganizations whenever the need arises. Set up and perform database refreshes from production database tables to non-production databases. Create new database tables, table spaces and indexes as well as alter the structure of existing database tables as agreed with senior DBA. Perform release management and version control tasks when required. Peer review other team members' procedural documents. Supervision Responsibilities Possibility to supervise a small DBA team if required. Complete weekly status feedback and reporting. Assist team members in DBA/Release Management tasks. Attend client meetings and workshops representing the project. Knowledge and Skills Required Minimum 3 years’ experience as DB2 DBA or Senior Operator in a z/OS environment. Working knowledge of Mainframe (MVS), DB2 for z/OS, WINDOWS Operating systems, SQL, CICS, REXX and JCL. Batch operations and MVS architectures. Preferred Skills DB2 V12 or higher in a z/OS environment. Understanding of database management tools such as Performance Monitor, schedulers, e.g. CONTROL‑M/R/O/T DB2 Query Monitor for zOS DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer OPTIM Query Workload Tuner DB2 Administrator Tool for zOS DB2 for zOS DB2 Log Analysis Tool for zOS QMF for Workstation QMF for zOS CICS DBUG Tool TMON DB2 Data Studio DB2 Omegamon DB2 IDZ and IDAA SQL and/or Rexx coding to automate routing tasks. Experience as a DBA with Oracle is an advantage. A minimum of 2 years of experience in relevant related skills. Expert proficiency in Database Management.
