Overview Safari JOBS is looking for a dynamic Assistant Maintenance Manager to join the management team of a sprawling 5 star sanctuary tucked within a world‑renowned, malaria‑free game reserve. This is a rare opportunity for a hands‑on leader to help oversee the infrastructure of a premier safari destination that blends traditional aesthetics with sophisticated high‑end hospitality. In this role, you are not just fixing equipment; you are a guardian of the guest experience. Responsibilities Communicates directly with the Operations departments to coordinate maintenance and repair work to the required 5‑star standards. Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance staff. Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the Maintenance department. Ensures that all maintenance staff is trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures. Monitors operation of equipment and systems, reviews the operation of equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate or solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement. Maintains and repairs maintenance workshop equipment; establishes and maintains a clear service record of all lodge equipment. Prepares reports, analyses data, and makes recommendations for improving operations and solving maintenance‑related problems. Programs door locks and electronic safes. Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated for a safe, timely, and cost‑effective maintenance program. Communicates regularly with all maintenance staff, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two‑way communication concerning maintenance issues. Assists with recruiting and selection of maintenance personnel. Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs. Tracks, analyzes and improves key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc. Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures. Qualifications Clear criminal record. Excellent employment track record – references will be verified. Excellent English fluency & literacy. Computer literate. National Senior Certificate. Trade Test Certificate. Minimum 4–5 years’ experience in a 4 or 5 star hotel, lodge or similar environment. Strong management skills. Good all‑rounder with varied experience in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Construction and Landscaping etc. Knowledge of refrigeration and aircon units, industrial generators, boreholes, wastewater plants etc. Wireman’s Licence (advantage). Fine attention to detail and maintaining a guest‑centric approach. Ability to drive change and look for operational efficiencies. Highly presentable with excellent communication skills and balanced emotional intelligence. Benefits Basic monthly remuneration (negotiable). Accommodation – partly/furnished and own bathroom.
