Job Description: The IT Intern / Junior Administrator is an entry‑level role that assists the IT Manager, helping with day‑to‑day IT operations and contributing to ongoing projects. Responsibilities include asset tracking, Microsoft 365 tenant support, end‑user support, and supporting the implementation of office and network upgrades. Reporting Line: Reports directly to the IT Manager. Key Responsibilities: Asset Tracking and Management: Maintain an accurate, up‑to‑date register of all IT assets, including laptops, desktops, peripherals, mobile devices, and network equipment. Track the full lifecycle of IT assets from procurement to deployment, reassignment, and decommissioning. Conduct regular audits to verify asset locations, conditions, and ownership across Johannesburg and Cape Town offices. Assist with procurement, receipt, and tagging of new equipment. Assist with the administration of the Microsoft 365 tenant, including user account creation, licenseassignment, and group management. Support the configuration and maintenance of Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams. Help monitor tenant health, security alerts, and compliance settings. Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring access is provisioned and revoked in line with company policy. End‑User Support: Act as first point of contact for end‑user IT queries, logging and resolving tickets promptly. Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues for staff and remote users. Set up and configure workstations, laptops, printers, and mobile devices for new and existing employees. Manage the new‑user onboarding setup, including provisioning Microsoft 365 accounts and configuring email and Teams. Prepare replacement laptops and workstations, including imaging, software installation, data migration, and final handover. Provide basic training and guidance on Microsoft 365 applications and company IT systems. Network and Printer Monitoring: Monitor office network performance and availability, including switches, wireless access points, and internet connectivity, escalating issues as needed. Monitor and maintain printers and multi‑function devices across the Johannesburg office. Perform first‑line troubleshooting on network and print faults, logging calls with service providers when necessary. Assist with routine network administration tasks under the IT Manager’s guidance. Support to the IT Manager: Assist with day‑to‑day operations and broader IT initiatives. Help implement IT projects, including office moves, network upgrades, and new system rollouts. Maintain documentation of IT infrastructure, procedures, and standard operating processes. Support security and compliance activities, including audits and best‑practice implementations. Travel and Cross‑Office Support: Travel to the Cape Town office as required to provide on‑site support or assist with IT projects. Coordinate with staff in both offices to ensure consistent IT service delivery. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications and Requirements: CompTIA A+ certification. CompTIA Network+ (N+) certification. Microsoft Certified Fundamental‑level certification covering core concepts in Azure, Microsoft 365, or Security (e.g., AZ‑900, MS‑900, or SC‑900). Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to the Cape Town office. Matric / Grade 12. Advantageous: Microsoft Certified Associate‑level certification for roles like Azure Administrator, Microsoft 365 Administrator, or Power Platform App Maker. Exposure to or studies towards an IT‑related qualification (Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar). Previous internship, vacation work, or part‑time experience in an IT support environment. Skills and Attributes Strong customer‑service orientation with a friendly, patient, and professional manner. Good problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills. Solid working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 suite from an end‑user perspective. Familiarity with Windows operating systems and basic networking concepts. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Well organised with attention to detail and the ability to keep accurate records. Self‑motivated, eager to learn, and able to take direction from the IT Manager.
