PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To monitor, coordinate, and respond to all security-related activities through the control room, ensuring the safety and security of personnel, property, assets, and operations. The Security Control Room Operator is responsible for surveillance systems, communication with security personnel, incident logging, emergency coordination, and maintaining accurate operational records. Key Responsibilities Surveillance Monitoring. Operate and monitor CCTV cameras and alarm systems continuously. Detect suspicious activity, security breaches, safety hazards, and operational irregularities. Operate surveillance equipment effectively and report technical faults immediately. Retrieve and review CCTV footage when required for investigations. Monitor access control systems and authorize entry/exit where applicable. Verify visitor, contractor, and employee access requests. Identify and report unauthorized access attempts. Fleet Monitoring Incident Management Receive, record, and elevate incidents according to company procedures. Dispatch security officers or emergency response teams when required. Maintain accurate incident logs and occurrence books. Coordinate responses during emergencies such as: Intrusions Fire alarms Medical emergencies Panic alarms Equipment failures Security breaches Communication & Coordination Site Coverage Maintain constant radio and telephone communication with: Security officers Supervisors Emergency services Clients Management Ensure all communications are professional, clear, and accurately documented. Monitor guard patrol check-ins and staff movements. Reporting & Documentation Complete daily online occurrence books and shift reports. Maintain accurate records of: Incidents Patrols Alarm activations Equipment faults Visitor activities Compile daily reports for management and investigations. Emergency Response Support Activate emergency procedures when necessary. Coordinate evacuation communications and emergency responses. Notify emergency services and relevant management personnel. Remain calm and effective under pressure. System Monitoring & Administration Monitor: CCTV systems Alarm systems GPS tracking systems Guard monitoring systems Access control systems Fleet Management Systems Report system failures or maintenance requirements promptly. Compliance Ensure adherence to: Company policies Client procedures Health & Safety requirements Security regulations Confidentiality requirements Maintain professionalism and integrity at all times Requirements Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification. A Diploma is an advantage. PSIRA certification (Grade B) is an advantage. CCTV Control Room Certificate/CCTV Monitoring Certificate. Minimum of 3 years' experience in online Occurrence Book Incident Desk or Online Intelligence, Listener or Signal for Alarm Monitoring and Systems like Cathexis for Video Management Software for CCTV. Clear Criminal Record. Alarm Monitoring Certificate, preferably in Listener (Oryx) or Signal. Technical Skills CCTV operation Experience working with systems like Cathexis, CiiMS Ops and Listener or Signal Alarm monitoring systems Radio communication systems Computer literacy (MS Office, email, reporting systems) Incident logging software GPS tracking systems Technical Tasking & Record Keeping Real-Time Notifications. Skills & Competencies Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and security monitoring software. Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
