TheUrbanative is a South African contemporary furniture and product design studio creating functional objects rooted in African stories, craftsmanship, and material exploration. Every piece is designed and manufactured locally through a collaborative process that bridges design, engineering, and making. We are looking for a highly organised, operationally minded, and proactive Production Coordinator to join our team in Johannesburg. This is a highly operational and factory-focused role suited to someone who thrives in a manufacturing environment and enjoys being actively involved in the day-to-day coordination of production. The successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time on the factory floor managing workflow, following up with teams, tracking deadlines, resolving bottlenecks, and ensuring projects move efficiently through manufacturing whilst maintaining quality standards. The role also requires strong administrative and data management capabilities, including production scheduling, production tracking, reporting, and workflow planning. Key Responsibilities Coordinate daily production schedules across departments including metalwork, woodworking, weaving, powder coating, upholstery, assembly, and dispatch Track project timelines and ensure production milestones are achieved Monitor workflow, factory priorities, and production progress daily Assist with production scheduling and capacity planning Capture and maintain accurate production data, job tracking, and reporting Track production times, workflow efficiency, and operational performance Liaise between design, factory, procurement, logistics, and management teams Ensure materials, outsourced services, and production components are ordered and available on time Identify production risks, delays, or bottlenecks and proactively assist in resolving them Coordinate quality control throughout manufacturing and final assembly Ensure dispatch preparation, packaging, and delivery timelines are met Maintain organised production records and operational documentation Support operational improvements and production efficiency initiatives Assist in maintaining high standards of factory organisation and housekeeping Requirements Experience in production coordination, manufacturing operations, factory administration, or production management Strong organisational and time management skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability Excellent communication and follow-up skills High attention to detail and accuracy Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Strong administrative and computer skills Strong spreadsheet and production tracking experience Ability to work collaboratively across departments and teams The following qualifications would be advantageous Diploma or Degree in Production Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or a related field Relevant manufacturing or factory operations experience will be strongly considered in place of formal qualifications Advantageous Experience Experience in any of the following environments will be highly advantageous: Furniture manufacturing Metal fabrication Woodworking production CNC manufacturing Powder coating environments Custom manufacturing Interior or product manufacturing Project-based manufacturing environments Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is: Highly operational and systems-oriented Proactive and solutions-driven Calm under pressure and flexible Hands-on and practical Confident managing workflow and following up consistently Comfortable balancing factory operations with administrative coordination Able to take ownership and drive production forward daily What Makes This Role Unique TheUrbanative operates at the intersection of design, craftsmanship, and manufacturing.
