Job Summary CIB Legal is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join the Transactional Banking Legal Team. The role will focus on identifying, mitigating and managing legal risk across the Pan Africa Cash Management (CM) business, providing proactive legal advice, support and risk management to the CM team. Responsibilities Identify, mitigate, and manage legal risk across the Pan Africa Cash Management (CM) business. Provide pro‑active legal advice, support, and risk management to the CM team. Act as the key point of contact for the CM team on a day‑to‑day basis. Demonstrate strong relationship‑management skills with clients. Plan and manage projects and matters to completion, including resourcing. Contribute to the development and implementation of team objectives and strategy, and provide high‑quality support to the business through interaction with legal and business stakeholders. Work independently with minimal supervision and supervise where appropriate. Demonstrate strong analytical skills, and solve complex problems creatively and effectively. Drive good cost‑control behaviour, especially around external spend, and consistently deliver against a broad range of competing targets. Manage external counsel and represent Absa on relevant industry forums and professional bodies, where required. Add value in commercial and technical discussions, providing training that is beneficial and informative to internal clients. Actively raise the profile of the legal function and improve legal key risks. Manage and create awareness by embedding legal policies and control requirements in all areas of the business. Provide appropriate challenge and be robust in the face of challenges. Build strong risk partnerships with colleagues in other functions, particularly key control areas. Fully understand the role of legal in Absa and how it interacts with other functions and the business. Proactively collaborate across different teams and geographies within Legal to break down silos. Provide objective and constructive feedback and openly share knowledge and expertise. Act as a trusted advisor to business and infrastructure areas; understand market and legal developments and their impact on business. Contribute to industry‑wide initiatives and maintain a good network among peer groups externally. Qualifications Strong understanding of banking law and financial regulations in South Africa. Deep knowledge of transactional banking products, including payments, liquidity and cash pooling, account structure, treasury services, digital/online banking platforms, payment systems and cash management products. Knowledge of South African and global regulations on digital and crypto assets. Strong analytical, leadership, relationship‑management and cost‑control skills. Ability to work independently, manage projects and supervise colleagues as necessary. Proven ability to liaise with external counsel and industry bodies. Ability to provide training, guidance and commercial/value addition to internal stakeholders. Education Bachelor Honours Degree in Law, Military Science and Security (Required).
