Security Guards (Talent Pool) – Gauteng Dis‑Chem Pharmacies Limited, Johannesburg, Gauteng, Permanent Position, Closing Date 22 June 2026 Job Description Dis‑Chem Pharmacies in Gauteng seeks a security guard to render security services in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 as amended. The guard will protect assets, property, and staff by creating a safe environment, identifying signs of criminal activity or disorder, investigating disturbances, and adhering to relevant legislation and best practice. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate Grade C accreditation with PSIRA General minimum exposure of at least 3 years in the retail industry (e.g., shopping malls and warehouses) Advantageous At least 1 year of specific previous experience in a similar role Job Specification Be vigilant and alert to surroundings, identify suspicious activities, apprehend criminals or remove violators as per legal authority and Dis‑Chem SOP. Conduct random patrols of premises to ensure visibility and risk reduction. Monitor and control access to premises, documenting and regulating entrance for vehicles or pedestrians, allowing entry only to authorized individuals. Investigate and report signs of damage or unlawful entry to management, acting to protect assets. Serve as a deterrent to discourage criminal activities, theft, damage, personal injury, and other dishonest acts. Provide courteous and friendly service to guests, customers, and employees. Search staff, suppliers, and merchandisers for access control. Maintain all registers and occurrence books; cancel staff purchases and goods declared. Supervise and check refuse removal per Dis‑Chem standards. Be present at post at all times during duty. Practice good customer‑service relations for all internal and external customers. Report unusual or suspicious behaviour by staff, customers, or suppliers. Execute opening and closing procedures, ensuring doors and windows are locked and water taps are turned off. Conduct daily personnel frisking and searches, and thorough vehicle searches. Report suspicious incidents verbally to management and submit written detailed reports promptly. Contact policing and emergency authorities and make written or verbal reports to law enforcement as required. Maintain observation during crisis situations and report findings to management. After a crisis, report incident to management, police or appropriate authorities with a detailed written report. Monitor alarm systems, cameras, and emergency equipment; operate detecting equipment as needed. During night or after‑hours, patrol and monitor premises to ensure legal entrance. Provide assistance to emergency teams (first responders, clinic staff, managers, etc.) during emergencies. Maintain order during evacuation procedures and at assembly points to ensure safety and prevent stampedes. Offer ongoing security advice and safety warnings, ensuring adherence to precautions. Watch for suspicious activities indicating breaches of security measures. Interpret observed situations quickly and act accordingly. Respond promptly during crises, avoiding being caught unaware. Apply best response procedures for various dangerous situations per industry and SOP. Call police instantly during armed robbery or deadly weapon assaults. Keep accurate notes of unusual occurrences and daily activities. Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity. Perform special duties such as receiving calls, responding to text/email, and running errands according to SOP. Competencies Essential: PSIRA knowledge, fire emergency and relevant Health and Safety training, proficiency in English (read, write, speak). Advantageous: Knowledge of a third language. Special Conditions of Employment PSIRA registered, Grade C accreditation. South African national. Valid MIE, clear criminal record and credit check.
