Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Dog Handler Security role based in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area. The Dog Handler Security team member will patrol residential estates and development sites with a trained security dog to deter, detect, and respond to potential security threats. Responsibilities include conducting routine perimeter checks, inspecting access points, and monitoring high-risk areas while maintaining strict adherence to security protocols. The role involves handling, controlling, and caring for the assigned dog, including basic grooming, feeding, exercise, and ongoing training reinforcement. The Dog Handler will complete incident and patrol reports, communicate observations to the security supervisor or control room, respond to alarms or emergencies, and engage professionally with residents, visitors, and colleagues. Qualifications Strong Animal Care, including daily welfare, feeding, grooming, and basic health monitoring of working dogs. Proven knowledge of Dog Behavior and Dog Training, with the ability to handle, control, and reinforce obedience and security-related commands safely and consistently. Effective Communication skills to report incidents clearly, follow instructions, and interact respectfully with residents, visitors, and team members. Previous experience as a dog handler, security officer, or in a similar protective services role is highly beneficial. Familiarity with basic security procedures, access control, and incident reporting; security certifications or licensing are an advantage.
