Job Description: Information Technology (IT) Engineer – Shipping Industry Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled IT Engineer with proven experience in the shipping and logistics sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing IT systems that support shipping operations, trade documentation, and logistics processes. This role requires strong technical expertise combined with industry-specific understanding to ensure seamless integration of technology into maritime and shipping workflows. Key Responsibilities Systems Administration & Support Manage and maintain IT infrastructure including servers, networks, and databases. Provide technical support for shipping management systems, ERP platforms, and logistics software. Ensure system uptime, reliability, and security across all IT operations. Shipping & Logistics IT Solutions Implement and support shipping-specific applications such as cargo tracking, vessel scheduling, and customs clearance systems. Integrate IT solutions with port authorities, freight forwarders, and trade partners. Optimize electronic data interchange (EDI) processes for trade documentation and compliance. Cybersecurity & Governance Safeguard sensitive shipping and trade data through robust cybersecurity measures. Ensure compliance with international maritime IT standards and data protection regulations. Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to maintain governance standards. Innovation & Process Improvement Identify opportunities to leverage technology for operational efficiency in shipping and logistics. Support digital transformation initiatives including automation, cloud adoption, and AI-driven analytics. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and enhance customer experience. Stakeholder Engagement Work closely with shipping operations, trade, and finance teams to align IT solutions with business needs. Liaise with external vendors, software providers, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth system integration. Provide training and guidance to staff on IT systems and best practices. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Minimum of 5–7 years of IT engineering experience, with at least 3 years in the shipping/logistics industry. Strong knowledge of shipping management systems, ERP platforms, and EDI solutions. Experience with network administration, database management, and cloud technologies. Familiarity with maritime trade regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
