JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (SUMMARY): Take ownership of products and product designs, by ensuring that the products meet the specified requirements according to national and international standards. Specify and develop new test methods for designed products, not just interpreting specifications or following what is specified. Manage output of design department by ensuring that enquiries are analysed and verified and by developing a program or plan to ensure timely completion of enquiries. Assist with designing products to meet the specified requirements according to national and international standards. Specifying tests and test methods for the designed products. Ensuring enquiries are analysed and a programme is developed to ensure timeous completion of enquiries. Liaise with Sales Administration and customers regarding technical specifications from customer to produce cable designs for non‑standard products. Efficient time management is necessary to ensure timely completion of multiple tasks. Considerable interruptions must be tolerated during the course of a normal day. Peaks in workload must be handled regularly and effectively. Draw up action plans for development projects, taking cognizance of available resources both within and outside. Co‑ordination of these projects must be timely administered to avoid difficulties with the international centralised coordination of projects. Develop methodologies that make the design process robust and immune to error. Actively involved in independent verification of design department’s work. Identify special needs for the department such as new software programs, special tests, etc. Actively involved in marketing the department in the form of papers, articles, presentations, technical bulletins, data, intranet and internet, etc. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: BSc Electrical Engineering / BTech Electrical Engineering Post graduate qualification will be advantageous Knowledge of SANS, IEC and NRS Specifications Experience in cable manufacturing processes is essential Knowledge of Autodesk / AutoCAD and Syspro will be an added advantage.
