Foundation For Professional Development Internship Internships Tvet Graduate InternshipUniversity Graduate Internship Work Experience Internships FET Graduate Internship Programme FPD received funding from HWSETA to establish the Work Experience Internship for FET Graduates in 2014.With this funding, FPD has placed Over 200 TVET interns within FPD and partner health districts for a 12 months’ work experience internship. This opportunity entails the provision of work experience in various fields such as Information Technology, Finance and Office Administration. We hope to mentor and coach these 56 young people and ensure that their level of knowledge and experience improves in the duration of the Internship. Available Programmes The FPD SHIPS Department was established in 2012 to draw from the expertise developed by FPD through the PEPFAR Fellowship Programme in successfully transitioning students from academia to the workplace.The Department has designed a number of programmes designed to hone the skills of postgraduate students, graduate students as well as school‑leavers to enhance their employability through work experience opportunities by placing them with FPD, PEPFAR partners and the public and private sector institutions. Internships A period of work experience offered by an employer to give students and graduates exposure to the working environment, often within a specific industry, which relates to their field of study. Learnerships A vocational education and training programme to facilitate the linkage between structured learning and work experience in order to obtain a registered qualification. International Internships The CEE 360 Internship is an opportunity for adventurous young individuals to explore different cultures and traditions of various nations. Current projects Pharmacy Assistant The Pharmacy Assistant Learnership Programme was established in 2009, to date, this programme has supported over 2,849 learners at both basic and post‑basic levels. Currently, the post‑learnership employment rate is at 75% for the Pharmacy Assistant programme, with demand for qualified students at the Post‑Basic level exceeding the number of trained students. Business Administration In 2017, SHIPS introduced a new Learnership for disabled learners in Business Administration. Various private sector partners fund this learnership that aims to alleviate poverty among our disabled youth, by improving their employability through learnership opportunities. To date, we have successfully trained 481 learners, and currently have more than 64 learners enrolled in the business administration learnership.
