About the Opportunity FES South Africa Office, in partnership with SATRI and EU co‑funding, seeks two research assistants to support a key initiative on the just transition. The role involves gathering, analysing, and synthesising information on worker‑ and community‑led approaches to the energy transition across Africa. Responsibilities Conduct literature reviews and data collection on just transition topics. Analyse research findings and produce synthesis reports. Engage with workers, communities, and stakeholders in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu‑Natal during fieldwork (July‑October 2026). Assist in workshop facilitation and participatory research processes. Support dissemination of findings to policymakers and partner organisations. Qualifications Strong academic background in social sciences, economics, environmental studies, or related field. Excellent research and analytical skills, with ability to gather and synthesise data. Experience in community engagement and participatory methods. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Flexible and willing to travel to Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu‑Natal between July and October 2026.
