Requirements Eligibility for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Occupational Therapist. Current HPCSA registration valid from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Senior or National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Occupational Therapy or Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOcc) Degree. Experience in acute hospitals; experience supervising others is an advantage. Ability to work independently, under pressure, in a high‑pace environment and interact well with patients, other therapists, family members/caregivers, and multidisciplinary team members. Analytical thinking, independent decision‑making, problem‑solving skills, and good time‑management skills. Willingness to rotate within the substructure and perform relief duties. Ability to supervise students and subordinates. Occupational Therapist Grade 1: No experience required after registration with HPCSA for RSA qualified employees who have performed community service. Occupational Therapist Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience after registration with HPCSA for RSA qualified employees who have performed community service. Occupational Therapist Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience after registration with HPCSA for RSA qualified employees who have performed community service. Duties Render Occupational Therapy services by assessing and treating adult and paediatric patients with physical or psychiatric disorders within the allocated clinical load. Assist with other clinical loads as required. Ensure provision of quality occupational therapy services that comply with health policies, standards, and norms. Participate in allocated administrative duties and quality assurance methods. Identify and report risks; communicate effectively with all stakeholders, following proper communication channels. Oversee allocated officials, facilitate and participate in professional and generic CPD activities/programmes. Plan, supervise, and execute student training. Exercise care with all equipment and consumables. Coordinate and manage OT services for a designated area, including people management of rehabilitation care workers, students, and volunteers.
