The main job purpose of a Team Leader in a manufacturing setting is to oversee and coordinate the activities of a production team to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing processes. Team Leadership: Supervise a team of production workers, providing guidance, feedback, and support. Assign tasks, set priorities, and ensure production targets are met. Conduct team meetings to communicate goals, resolve issues, and improve team morale. Production Planning and Scheduling: Coordinate daily production activities and ensure workflow efficiency. Collaborate with production planners to create and adjust production schedules. Monitor production progress and adjust plans to meet deadlines and targets Quality Assurance: Ensure that production processes meet quality standards and specifications. Work with quality assurance teams to identify and address quality issues. Implement quality control measures and conduct regular inspections. Safety and Compliance: Promote a safety-conscious culture and ensure team compliance with safety regulations. Conduct safety briefings and training sessions for the team. Report safety incidents and take corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Resource Management: Coordinate resource allocation, ensuring the team has the tools and materials needed for production. Manage equipment maintenance and report any issues to maintenance teams. Implement practices to reduce material waste and optimize resource usage. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency. Encourage team members to suggest innovative ideas and contribute to process improvement. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to streamline manufacturing processes. Required Minimum Qualifications and Experience: A National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent. Post-secondary education or training in engineering, manufacturing technology, or a related field from a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college or similar institution. 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment. Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Attributes) required. Manufacturing Processes: A thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and terminology. Quality Standards: Knowledge of quality assurance practices and compliance with industry standards. Safety Regulations: Familiarity with safety regulations and protocols in a manufacturing environment. Production Planning: Understanding of production planning and scheduling. Leadership and Team Management: Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a production team effectively. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address manufacturing issues and operational challenges. Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, supervisors, and other departments. Attention to Detail: A high level of accuracy and attention to detail in production activities and quality control.
