An exceptional senior-level opportunity exists for a highly experienced and professionally registered CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (BRIDGES & STRUCTURAL WORKS) to join a major infrastructure and civil engineering project based in Durban. This role is ideally suited to a seasoned construction professional with decades of proven site leadership experience across large-scale bridge construction, interchange structures, reinforced concrete works, and major civil infrastructure developments within South Africa. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for managing all on-site structural and bridge-related construction activities, ensuring that project execution aligns with strict engineering, safety, quality, commercial, and programme requirements. This is a fast-track appointment requiring a technically strong, highly disciplined, and operationally driven individual capable of leading large multidisciplinary construction teams within a high-pressure project environment. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee and manage all site-based bridge and structural construction activities. Ensure all structural and civil works are executed according to approved engineering drawings, specifications, and project standards. Lead construction teams, subcontractors, supervisors, and site personnel to ensure project milestones and deadlines are achieved. Manage bridge construction activities including foundations, piling, retaining structures, concrete works, decks, beams, culverts, and interchange structures. Ensure strict compliance with SANRAL specifications, quality standards, and contractual obligations. Coordinate daily construction planning, site logistics, resources, plant, and labour requirements. Monitor construction progress, budgets, programme timelines, and productivity targets. Identify and resolve technical, operational, and construction-related challenges on site. Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems. Chair site meetings and provide regular project reporting to senior management and consulting teams. Coordinate effectively with engineers, quantity surveyors, consultants, suppliers, and client representatives. Review method statements, risk assessments, and construction procedures. Ensure accurate record keeping, progress tracking, and project documentation. Drive quality workmanship and ensure structural integrity across all construction phases. Support commercial and contractual administration where required. Mentor and lead junior site management personnel and technical teams. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Degree / Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related engineering qualification. Professionally registered with SACPCMP, ECSA, or equivalent professional body (essential). Minimum 25+ years construction experience within civil engineering and infrastructure projects. Minimum 1015 years dedicated bridge construction and structural works experience. Proven experience on interchange bridges, major road structures, and heavy civil infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of SANRAL specifications, South African construction standards, and civil engineering regulations. Extensive site management and large workforce supervision experience. Strong contractual, programme, and construction planning capability. Excellent understanding of structural concrete, reinforcement, earthworks, formwork, and bridge methodologies. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and high-pressure site environments. Excellent reporting, coordination, and problem-solving capability. Computer literate (MS Office, project planning and reporting systems). Valid drivers licence.
