Company Overview OpenFn is the digital public good for public service automation & AI orchestration. Our platform automates data exchange and digital workflows so that governments and NGOs can deliver public services more efficiently, achieve interoperability across fragmented systems, and scale critical public services across health, humanitarian, and government programs. Our team, Open Function Group, the primary steward of this open-source platform, is a lean, fully-remote team of integration specialists, solution architects, and implementation consultants working across 40+ countries. We are not making marginal improvements to already comfortable lives. We are building the infrastructure that allows governments to function, clinics to operate, and vulnerable populations to access services they depend on. The role We are hiring a Finance & Operations Lead to own the financial and operational backbone of OpenFn, ensuring strong financial visibility, reliable process delivery, and well-coordinated operations as the organization grows. Tl;dr: We need a remote, finance-capable (but non-CPA), details/process-oriented, spreadsheet/CRM native who can level up OpenFn’s internal finance & operations game, enabling this diverse team of 30 tech for good specialists to the next level. What you’ll be doing You will work closely with leadership, internal teams, and external partners (for Accounting & Tax) to manage financial operations and planning, improve internal processes, and support the day-to-day running of the organization. Leveraging your expertise in finance and operations, you will help ensure that core processes run smoothly, information flows reliably, and the business has a clear and consistent view of its performance. Financial Planning & Reporting Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning processes by developing and maintaining OpenFn’s financial models Review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and KPI reporting for accuracy and completeness Own preparation of financial performance reporting, including leadership readouts (e.g., QBRs) and board/investor materials, as required Build and maintain financial reports / dashboards (e.g., within QBO/CRM) to provide clear visibility into business performance and translate data into actionable insights Operational Process & Systems Ownership Oversee OpenFn’s financial and operational systems (QuickBooks, Salesforce/Odoo/CRM), supporting tool enhancements and owning the development of reporting and dashboards (in partnership with other internal teams, e.g. sales/services) Centrally manage user access, licenses, and renewals for all organizational software tools (SaaS). Identify meaningful friction points in internal processes (onboarding, T&E, billing, etc), and design, implement, and own process improvements Develop and manage a repository of internal systems and processes (CRM, T&E, etc) to support internal training and onboarding Vendor Coordination and Partnership Serve as the primary internal point of contact for OpenFn’s accounting, tax, and legal vendors Provide input and partnership on key accounting workflows to ensure that the accounting vendor executes on its day‑to‑day responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner (AP/AR, month‑end close, payroll, financial statements, etc). Coordinate with accounting, tax, and legal vendors to manage compliance workflows across jurisdictions, including entity setups, tax filings/compliance, registrations, and other regulatory and reporting obligations Support audit and reporting processes as needed Internal / People Operations Support re‑design and execution of company compensation strategy and compensation escalation process Support key elements of new hire onboarding: systems access, employee record creation (Gusto), process onboarding (T&E guidance, etc), logistics, and compensation Plan and organize company-wide events and off‑sites, managing related budgets, travel, and logistics Required Qualifications To successfully own finance & operations for OpenFn, you should have the following qualifications and be comfortable and eager to operate across both finance and operational domains: 5–10+ years of experience in finance, operations, or finance/operations roles in a startup or scaling organization Strong financial fluency, combined with (at minimum) a basic understanding of core accounting concepts and workflows Proven track record of owning and driving transformative improvements to operational processes and/or systems Hands‑on experience with key financial and operational systems (e.g., CRMs, ERPs, Quickbooks) Strong analytical skills, with the ability to build and maintain financial models, forecasts, and reporting frameworks Eagerness to take proactive ownership of a variety of internal processes and workflows Strong attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy and reliability Excellent written and verbal English communication, to support internal collaboration and engagement with external vendors Ability to work from home or a shared office space with fast, stable internet, preferably in a country that is located in Africa/Europe time zones Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are not mandatory, but are a plus for the role: Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements, with the ability to independently review, interpret, and pressure‑test outputs from external accounting partners Experience supporting finance & operations for international, multi‑entity corporate structures (e.g. across Europe, Africa, U.S.) Strong working knowledge of Salesforce, Odoo, Quickbooks, and/or Oracle Experience working with key external vendors (accounting, tax, legal) Background working with digital public goods, open source, government digital transformation programs, or NGO technology teams in Africa, Asia, or Latin America Benefits Financial compensation is commensurate with experience.
