Position Overview Applications are invited for the position of Senior Data Engineer (Grade 8) based at Head Office, Bruma. The successful applicant will report to the Manager: Data Integration and Operations. Purpose To design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure data pipelines and architectures that enable seamless integration, transformation, and delivery of high‑quality data across the organisation. To support analytics, reporting, and management decision‑making by ensuring efficient ingestion, processing, and availability of enterprise data assets. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and optimise data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and other analytical platforms. Implement data engineering best practices to guarantee data integrity, security, availability, and performance at scale. Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical data solutions. Develop, manage, and maintain master data integration frameworks, ensuring consistent, accurate, and trusted data delivery. Lead the integration of structured and unstructured data sources to support advanced analytics, business intelligence, and AI/ML use cases. Automate and operationalise data workflows, including real‑time streaming and batch processing. Conduct continuous research to identify industry trends and new technologies for internal implementation. Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy regulations (e.g., POPIA, HIPAA). Perform data security audits, risk assessments, and develop mitigation plans. Monitor and report on data quality metrics, leading continuous improvement initiatives. Support data recovery planning and business continuity strategies. Generate and submit required internal and external compliance reports. Maintain strong relationships with IT product and service providers, managing SLAs and performance reporting. Participate in departmental budgeting, managing delegated expenditure and ensuring compliance with financial policies. Manage and develop staff, including onboarding, performance management, coaching, and retention initiatives. Formal Qualifications B.Eng. or BSc in Computer Science or related fields (Electronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Studies, Information Technology, Data Analytics). Postgraduate degree in Computer Science or related fields is an advantage. Required Experience Minimum 5 years of experience in IT, data management, and engineering, with at least 3 years at a senior specialist level. Proven track record of designing and delivering large‑scale data solutions in mission‑critical environments. Experience with data integration, ETL/ELT, data warehousing/lakes, and pipelines, including orchestration and support for structured and unstructured data. Familiarity with database technologies and data administration functions. Proficiency in modern data integration tools and technologies. Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions for analytics, reporting, AI/ML, and regulatory compliance. Leadership experience overseeing data engineering or IT project teams. Capability to develop business cases, conduct cost‑benefit analyses, and support budget justifications for technology investments.
