Overview A Life Healthcare cleaner maintains cleanliness, hygiene, and infection‑control standards across Life Healthcare hospitals, rehabilitation centres, mental health facilities, and occupational health clinics in South Africa. Responsibilities Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in patient wards and clinical areas. Adhere to infection‑control procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Support operating theatre, ICU, and other high‑standard areas. Follow cleaning schedules, record maintenance of supplies, and report any irregularities. Work within a dedicated in‑house or contracted team to meet patient‑safety and facility‑quality goals. Ensure adherence to Health and Safety and Infection Prevention & Control guidelines. Qualifications and Skills Education No formal qualification is required for entry‑level roles. Grade 10 or Grade 12 is strongly preferred. Good communication skills in English are advantageous for patient‑facing duties. Experience and Skills Previous cleaning experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare environment is advantageous. Basic understanding of infection‑control procedures and hygiene protocols. Ability to follow standard operating procedures for healthcare cleaning. Reliability, attention to detail, and physical fitness to meet the demands of the environment. Certifications (Advantageous) Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) awareness training. Health and Safety (OHSA) awareness certificate. First Aid Level 1 (advantageous but not required for entrylevel roles). Salary and Employee Benefits Entry‑level cleaner – ZAR5,500–7,000 per month. Experienced cleaner – ZAR7,000–9,500 per month. Theatre and ICU support cleaner – ZAR7,500–10,500 per month. Rehabilitation or Mental Health facility cleaner – ZAR6,500–9,000 per month.
