Basic R425 qualification (Degree/Diploma in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse with Midwifery. Additional qualification registered with SANC according to Regulation R212 in Health Services Management/Nursing Administration (Degree or Diploma). Minimum of nine (9) years of appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing. At least five (5) years of the above experience in an Operating Theatre department after obtaining the one (1) year post-basic qualification in Medical and Surgical Nursing Science – Operating Theatre Nursing. Current registration with the South African Nursing Council. Competencies: leadership, ward management/ward administration, planning, organizing, coordination, and communication skills; ability to take charge and make independent decisions; empathy for patients, advocacy, holistic treatment and care; knowledge of administrative policies and guidelines. Duties Supervise and evaluate quality of nursing care as directed by professional scope of practice and set nursing standards within a professional/legal framework. Implement nursing legislation and related frameworks and ethical nursing practices. Manage resources effectively and efficiently in the unit. Compile and analyze reports to improve quality of patient care. Participate in training, research and self-development. Be allocated to work night shifts, weekends, public holidays and relieve the supervisor when required. Perform as an Operational Manager in accordance with the scope of practice and demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other health professionals and junior colleagues.
