Site Surveyor Position Title: Site Surveyor Department: Construction / Projects Reports To: Construction Manager / Project Manager / Senior Surveyor Location: Site‑based, with travel between project sites as required SPEC‑Africa requires a highly experienced Site Surveyor who will be responsible for carrying out accurate site measurements, setting out works, verifying levels, preparing survey data, and supporting the construction team to ensure that works are executed according to drawings, specifications, and project requirements. The role is critical in ensuring that construction activities are correctly positioned, measured, recorded, and controlled to avoid errors, delays, rework, and cost overruns. Responsibilities Site Setting Out and Measurements Set out construction works accurately in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and site instructions. Establish and maintain survey control points, benchmarks, levels, and reference lines. Conduct accurate measurements for excavations, foundations, structures, services, fencing, roads, earthworks, and other construction activities. Verify levels, alignments, dimensions, and positions before and during construction. Identify and report discrepancies between drawings, site conditions, and actual measurements. Survey Data and Reporting Record all survey measurements accurately and maintain proper site survey records. Prepare survey reports, sketches, marked‑up drawings, and as‑built information where required. Provide measurement data to the Quantity Surveying, Engineering, and Construction teams. Assist with progress measurement and verification of completed works. Ensure survey information is filed and available for project records, claims, quality control, and handover purposes. Technical Support to Site Teams Support the Construction Manager, Site Agent, Foreman, and Engineers with technical survey information. Assist with resolving site measurement or drawing‑related queries. Confirm that works are executed within specified tolerances. Provide guidance to site teams where incorrect positioning, levels, or measurements may affect quality or programme. Escalate any potential construction risks, clashes, or deviations immediately. Quality and Compliance Ensure survey work supports compliance with project specifications, drawings, quality standards, and client requirements. Assist with inspections, quality checks, and verification of completed works. Maintain accurate as‑built records for completed sections of work. Ensure that survey equipment is calibrated, maintained, and used correctly. Comply with company policies, site procedures, safety requirements, and quality management systems. Health, Safety and Site Conduct Follow all site health and safety rules and procedures. Ensure that survey work is carried out safely, particularly near moving plant, excavations, live traffic, restricted areas, or high‑risk zones. Report unsafe conditions, access restrictions, or site risks to the relevant manager. Maintain professional conduct when dealing with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams. Minimum Requirements Relevant qualification in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related field. Previous experience as a Site Surveyor in the construction industry. Experience with setting out, levelling, site measurements, and as‑built surveys. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and survey data. Proficiency in using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, dumpy levels, laser levels, and related tools. Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office. Valid driver’s license. Willingness to travel and work on different project sites. Preferred Requirements Experience on civil, building, fencing, infrastructure, earthworks, or security‑related construction projects. Experience working on large construction sites with multiple disciplines. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar survey/design software. Experience preparing as‑built drawings and survey reports. Familiarity with quality control processes and construction documentation. Experience working with client representatives, engineers, and principal agents.
