SENIOR FARM SPECIALIST (READADVERTISEMENT) Nature of Appointment: 12 Months Fixed Term Contract Salary: R397 116 per annum (Level 8) plus 37% in lieu of benefits Centre: Haakdoornboom Farm (Temba Campus) – Ref: TNC/TC/26-01/1 Requirements Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science, or equivalent qualifications with at least 2‑5 years’ experience in an operational environment, preferably Agriculture. Additional courses in business management or administration recommended. Valid driver’s licence and computer literacy. Excellent leadership and management skills, financial and human resources management skills. Infrastructure inspection knowledge. Good communication skills. Willingness to work overtime, additional hours, and weekends. Duties Plan and analyse existing operations, crops, livestock, staff, and financial documents, and recommend improvements. Prepare plans and schedules for planting and harvesting; ensure staff and students understand expectations. Visit different divisions to inspect crops, livestock, and perform soil and water tests. Ensure seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked. Drive tractors, operate machinery, feed livestock or spray fields. Schedule repairs, maintenance, & replacement of equipment. Handle marketing and sale of farm products (fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, grain). Ensure all staff and students adhere to health and safety regulations. Assist with recruitment and training of new staff. Collaborate with senior staff to prepare budgets and financial reports. Plan activities for trainee staff; mentor and monitor them. Understand weather implications and make contingency plans. Ensure compliance with government regulations and implement ISAT & PAT. Apply health and safety standards across the farm estate. Monitor animal health and welfare; liaise with vets. Maintain knowledge of pests and diseases and treatment. Protect the environment and maintain biodiversity. Build professional networks and stay abreast of developments in agricultural science. Apply for funding.
