Our client is a Retirement Residence which offers affordable, secure independent living for Seniors, including life‑right cottages. It features a coffee shop/clubhouse, provides lunches to residents and is in close proximity to a shopping mall and hospital. My client is looking for an individual who can work independently and be a multitasker. Purpose of the role To ensure the smooth, efficient and compassionate management of the retirement village, balancing resident well‑being, staff performance, financial stability, and regulatory compliance. The Manager acts as the main liaison with the Board and has three direct reports to this position: the residence manager, maintenance supervisor and gardens supervisor/driver. Key Responsibilities Resident & Community Management Maintain a warm, respectful environment while ensuring rules and standards are upheld. Handle residents’ concerns promptly and fairly, promoting trust and a sense of community. Support social and wellness activities for the residents. Operational Management Oversee daily operations of the village, including maintenance, housekeeping, catering and security / cameras. Ensure compliance with safety, health and services standards. Co‑ordinate the work of contractors and service providers. Letting/sale of accommodation including drafting of leases and life‑right contracts. Staff Labour and Relations Lead and motivate approximately 20 staff to deliver high quality service. Apply sound knowledge of South African Labour Law when managing performance, disputes and disciplinary processes. Financial and Administrative Management Prepare and manage annual budgets and financial reports. Authorise and monitor expenditure to ensure financial discipline. Authorise invoices and payments. Governance and Compliance Ensure village operations comply with legal and organisational policies. Report regularly to management or the board on financial, operational and HR matters. Qualification and Experience Previous management experience, preferable in a service, healthcare, property or hospitality environment. Sound knowledge of South African labour legislation. Proven ability to manage budgets and interpret financial statements. Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict‑resolution skills. Computer literate (MS Word, Excel and basic accounting). Personal Attributes Patient yet firm in dealing with residents and staff. Professional, empathetic and respectful toward the elderly. Strong sense of integrity and responsibility. Practical problem solver with good organisational and time‑management skills. Able to remain calm under pressure and make balanced decisions.
