Project Engineer Purpose of the Job The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering engineering projects within the steel manufacturing environment. The role focuses on the successful execution of capital projects, process industrialisation, equipment installation, and process improvements, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards. Qualifications & Experience Matric (Grade 12)Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related qualificationMinimum 5 years’ experience in a Project or Engineering role within automotive or steel manufacturingPress, Weld, or Tooling environment experience advantageous Technical Requirements Proven experience in engineering project management within a manufacturing environmentStrong understanding of steel manufacturing, press operations, and production processesAbility to manage equipment installation, line modifications, and process industrialisationExperience with project planning, scheduling, and cost controlStrong engineering fundamentals and technical problem-solving abilityExperience with quality systems and compliance requirements Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHS standardsStrong safety awareness and risk assessment capabilityProficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skillsAbility to manage contractors, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders Competency Requirements Strong communication and stakeholder management skillsExcellent planning, organisational, and coordination abilitiesAnalytical and structured problem-solving approachAbility to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentResults-driven with strong accountabilitySelf-motivated and able to work independently and in teamsDetail-oriented with strong follow-throughAbility to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines Key Duties and Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, and execute engineering and capital projects from concept to commissioningManage project scope, timelines, budgets, and resourcesSupport industrialisation of new products, tooling, and processesCoordinate equipment installation, line modifications, and process upgradesEnsure projects comply with safety, quality, and environmental standardsConduct risk assessments and ensure safe project executionMonitor project progress and report status to managementLiaise with production, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and contractorsResolve technical issues and implement corrective actionsSupport continuous improvement initiatives linked to engineering projectsEnsure proper documentation, handover, and project close-out.
