Job Description Summary The Generator Winder is responsible for winding, rewinding, repairing, and testing generator stators, rotors, and related electrical components. This role involves working with copper, insulation materials, and electrical equipment to ensure generators meet performance, quality, and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Wind, rewind, and refurbish generator stators, rotors, coils, and field windings Remove damaged windings and inspect electrical components for wear or failure Install insulation, liners, wedges, and other winding materials Measure and cut wire to specification and perform coil insertion and connection Solder, braze, or connect winding leads as required Test windings for resistance, continuity, insulation, and proper configuration Use hand tools, winding machines, ovens, lifting equipment, and electrical test instruments Read and interpret electrical drawings, winding diagrams, and job specifications Maintain accurate records of work performed, measurements, and test results Follow safety procedures, electrical lockout/tagout practices, and shop standards Inspect completed work to ensure quality and conformance to specifications Assist with teardown, assembly, and final preparation of generators as needed All on‑site life extensions, repairs and inspection‑related service activities that can be performed at the customer site include onsite machining, Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT), blading, winding, critical welding, and generator diagnostics Broaden knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy May include support roles with specialized technical fields of knowledge, still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework Resolve issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures Consult more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team For customer‑facing roles, develop strong customer relationships and serve as the interface between customer and GE Explain technical information to others Required Qualifications Certificate or Diploma in Engineering or a relevant Trade Qualification Minimum 3‑5 years of winding experience in the power generation industry Proven knowledge of generator electrical and mechanical components Understanding of processes in Thermal Power Plants English proficiency is a must as this role covers multiple countries Desired Characteristics Has the knowledge and skill to actively support an outage and know where to seek answers to questions as they arise Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel Ability to work under pressure and take ownership of onsite activities Willing to travel in country and worldwide, and to work overtime Experience with successful installations and outages Proficiency in conducting electrical tests, including high‑voltage tests Familiarity with instruments and controls and PLCs for controls training Familiarity with computer network systems & switches Strong analytic and problem‑solving skills Good interpersonal and organizational skills Additional Information Relocation Assistance Provided: No #J-18808-Ljbffr
