RESPONSIBILITIES: Team Leadership & Mentoring: Lead, guide and support a team of Accountants and Clerks. Review work before submission to clients and regulatory authorities. Provide coaching, technical guidance and on-the-job training. Assist team members in developing their technical and professional skills. Identify development opportunities and support succession planning within the team. Client Portfolio Management: Manage your own portfolio of monthly accounting clients. Build and maintain strong client relationships with focus on exceptional service. Act as the escalation point for complex client queries and technical matters. Monthly Accounting & Compliance: Review and prepare monthly management accounts. Oversee VAT submissions and related compliance requirements. Review payroll processing and statutory submissions within deadlines, ensuring accuracy. Co-ordinate annual compliance requirements, including CIPC submissions, Beneficial Ownership updates, Annual Returns and related statutory obligations. Deadline & Workflow Management: Manage multiple client deadlines across a diverse portfolio. Monitor workload allocation and team capacity. Proactively identify risks to deadlines and implement corrective action. Ensure efficient progress through the accounting cycle. Technical Oversight: Review trial balances, reconciliations, management accounts and compliance submissions. Co-ordinate handovers to the Annual Financial Statements team. Liaise with Tax Specialists and other internal departments where required. Escalate complex technical matters appropriately. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. Post Graduate Accounting qualification advantageous. CA (SA) or equivalent professional designation highly advantageous. Minimum 3 years' accounting experience within a professional services, accounting or advisory environment. Strong experience with monthly accounting, management accounts, VAT and payroll. Previous experience reviewing the work of junior accountants or mentoring team members. Experience managing client relationships and multiple deadlines. Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, Pastel or similar. SARS e-Filing experience is essential. KEY ATTRIBUTES Strong leadership and coaching ability.
