A well-established professional services firm is seeking a Tax Legal Consultant to join its specialist advisory team. This role is suited to a legally qualified professional with experience in tax dispute resolution, regulatory engagement, and legal advisory within the South African tax environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing complex tax-related matters, engaging with regulatory authorities, preparing legal submissions, and providing strategic guidance to clients on tax risk and compliance matters. The position offers exposure to high-level advisory work within a dynamic and technically focused environment. Key Responsibilities Tax Dispute Resolution Manage and oversee tax dispute matters involving SARS and other regulatory bodies. Prepare objections, appeals, legal submissions, and supporting documentation. Assist with negotiations, settlements, and dispute resolution proceedings. Support litigation processes and represent clients during engagements where required. Advisory & Technical Support Provide guidance on tax legislation, regulatory interpretation, and dispute processes. Conduct legal and technical research relating to tax matters and case law. Advise clients on tax risk mitigation and compliance strategies. Analyse complex matters and provide practical, commercially focused recommendations. Client Relationship Management Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients. Present technical findings and case strategies in a clear and professional manner. Provide ongoing updates and support throughout dispute resolution processes. Maintain strict confidentiality and professional standards at all times. Internal Collaboration Work closely with tax, accounting, and advisory teams on complex client matters. Assist in identifying potential tax risks and dispute exposure. Contribute to internal training, knowledge sharing, and technical development initiatives. Prepare reports and progress updates for management and stakeholders. Minimum Requirements LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification. Admission as an Attorney or Advocate advantageous. Postgraduate qualification in Tax or related field beneficial. Approximately 2–5 years’ experience within tax disputes, legal advisory, litigation, or regulatory matters. Experience engaging with SARS and interpreting South African tax legislation. Skills & Competencies Strong legal drafting and analytical capabilities. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple matters within strict deadlines.
