Accountant – Capital Markets Role summary We are seeking an Accountant, reporting to a Manager within the Capital Markets Division, to have responsibility for the preparations of accurate portfolio valuations on a timely basis. You will typically be responsible for the preparation and overseeing of a number of client portfolios, including underlying accounting, financial statements preparation and regulatory requirements. The role also involves developing and mentoring trainees and interns, and providing the highest quality of service to our customers. You will support a growing team that provides a full suite of accounting and financial reporting services to our Capital Market clients, including accounting, financial reporting, management accounts, NAV reporting and administration duties. Key responsibilities Provide day‑to‑day capital market accounting and financial reporting services to a portfolio of clients and structures, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures; Work with managers and the wider team to ensure the planning, coordination and completion of NAVs; Manage reporting and statutory reporting of corporate entities to ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP and regulatory obligations; Assist with the development and mentoring of trainee accountants; Liaise with portfolio managers, brokers and custodians to communicate information and resolve issues on a timely basis; Ensure that client responsibilities are managed effectively and to agreed client, best practice, regulatory and statutory deadlines; Monitor and complete all day‑to‑day tasks in a timely and satisfactory manner; Work closely with the client and Apex colleagues to ensure accounting records are accurate and transactions are correctly captured; Assist external auditors to ensure the audit function is executed efficiently; Perform any additional responsibilities that may be required in support of the ongoing management and development of the division; Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual NAVs; Prepare management accounts and IPDs; Prepare annual statutory financial statements. Skills / experience BCom Accounting Degree (or similar); SAIPA, CIMA or AG(SA) qualified; Proficient in MS Excel; Structured and detail‑oriented; Good analytical and problem‑solving skills; Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; Ability to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines; Excellent communication and organisation skills; Motivated and driven; accounting experience is an advantage; Capital Markets, corporate accounting or relevant industry knowledge is a distinct advantage.
