We are recruiting for both: • Trainee Buyers – for ambitious individuals looking to build a career in retail buying. • Buyers – experienced retail buying professionals with a proven track record in Food Retail, more specifically Groceries, Liquor, and Build hardware . BUYER As a Buyer, you will take ownership of product categories, driving sales, profitability, market competitiveness, and customer value. You will work closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders to develop and execute category strategies that support Boxer’s growth objectives. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute category strategies to drive sales, margin, and market share growth Manage supplier relationships and negotiate pricing, trading terms, promotional support, and contracts Conduct range reviews, assortment planning, and product sourcing initiatives Analyse sales, profitability, stock, and market trends to identify opportunities and risks Drive promotional planning and advertising activities within your categories Monitor stock availability and ensure optimal inventory levels across stores and distribution centres Collaborate with Marketing, Supply Chain, Planning, and Store Operations teams to ensure successful execution Identify innovation opportunities and introduce products that meet customer needs and market trends Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric) Relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce, Retail, Supply Chain, Business, or related field (advantageous) 3+ years' buying experience within Food Retail, FMCG, Wholesale, or Grocery Retail Proven experience in category management, supplier negotiations, and commercial decision-making Strong analytical and numerical ability Advanced Excel skills and strong reporting capabilities Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment TRAINEE BUYER The Trainee Buyer will work closely with experienced Buyers, gaining exposure to all aspects of the buying function. This role is ideal for someone who is commercially curious, highly analytical, and eager to develop a career in retail buying. Key Responsibilities Support Buyers with supplier negotiations and relationship management Assist with sales analysis, budgeting, and profitability tracking Monitor stock levels across stores and distribution centres Contribute to promotions, adverts, and campaign planning Prepare reports, presentations, and maintain accurate master data Assist with product ranging, planograms, and category management Build strong internal and external relationships Support demand planning and store execution initiatives Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric) Relevant tertiary qualification or studying towards one (advantageous) 1–3 years' relevant retail, commercial, or analytical experience Strong numerical and analytical ability Computer literacy with strong Excel and PowerPoint skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong problem-solving ability and business acumen Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Why Join Boxer?
