Responsibilities Teaching modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, taking a contextual and transformative approach: Legal interpretation Extractive Industries Law in Africa Public International Law (including humanitarian law and criminal law) Criminal law Constitutional law Conducting academic scholarly research Engaging with the community through teaching, supervision, and research that is embedded in and responsive to the African and South African social context Developing new knowledge, innovation, and understanding within the field of one's specialization Supervising research students Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels Academic administration and management Performing other duties delegated by the Head of the Department Minimum Requirements LLM in one of the specified fields One accredited or peer‑reviewed scholarly publication, or any publication of a scholarly nature, demonstrating potential for further development Required Competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes) Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team Appropriate communication skills Willingness to learn (including use of Learning Management Systems and technology to enhance learning) Leadership skills Computer literacy Added Advantages and Preferences Registration for, or progress with, doctoral studies in any of the fields mentioned above is a strong recommendation Experience or exposure to postgraduate supervision is an advantage Relevant tertiary or vocational teaching experience or post‑qualification experience in the legal profession or related field is a strong recommendation Demonstrated integration of community and public engagement into teaching and research is advantageous Relevant academic administration experience is a recommendation Benefits The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
