Job Purpose To lead the governance, management, and integrity of the Group’s master data assets, ensuring a single, accurate, and trusted source of data across all systems and business units. The role enables consistent, high-quality data across retail, pharmacy, supply chain, customer, and employee domains, supporting operational excellence, regulatory compliance, analytics, and AI-driven decision-making. Job Objectives Define and implement the Group’s master data management (MDM) strategy, aligned to enterprise data, AI, and business priorities. Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, standards, policies, and controls to ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across all systems. Ensure a single source of truth for key data domains (product, customer, supplier, store, employee, and pricing). Lead the design and implementation of master data processes, workflows, and stewardship models across the organisation. Monitor, measure, and continuously improve data quality metrics, resolving data issues and root causes proactively. Partner with IT, Enterprise Architecture, and business units to ensure integration and alignment of master data across systems and platforms. Support regulatory compliance, including data privacy and protection requirements (e.g., POPIA), ensuring secure and compliant data management practices. Enable data availability and quality for analytics, reporting, AI, and operational processes. Manage data lifecycle processes, including creation, maintenance, archiving, and decommissioning of master data. Build and lead a data stewardship capability, embedding accountability for data ownership across business functions. Job Related Knowledge Deep understanding of master data management (MDM) principles, frameworks, and tools Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data integrity practices Understanding of enterprise data models, data architecture, and system integration Knowledge of retail, supply chain, pharmacy, and customer data domains Understanding of data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements (e.g., POPIA). Experience with MDM platforms and tools (e.g., SAP MDG, Informatica, etc.) Knowledge of data lineage, metadata management, and data cataloguing Exposure to analytics, BI, and AI data requirements Experience in omnichannel retail or healthcare environments Understanding of ESG and sustainability data requirements Job Related Skills Strong data governance and data quality management capability Process design and optimisation (data workflows, controls, stewardship) Analytical problem-solving and root cause analysis Stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration Ability to translate data standards into practical business processes Data management tools proficiency (SQL, data quality tools, MDM platforms).
