Job Title: PostgreSQL Database Developer / Architect Experience Required: 10+ Years Location: Durban, South Africa (Work from Office | Relocation from India) Employment Type: Contract 12 Months (Renewable) About the Role We are hiring an experienced PostgreSQL Database Architect for a 12-month renewable contract with an Indian MNC client based in Durban, South Africa. The role demands architect-level expertise in designing, optimising, and managing high-availability PostgreSQL environments. Work permit and relocation support will be provided by the client. Key Responsibilities Design and own PostgreSQL database architecture for high-volume, high-availability production systems Develop and optimize complex SQL, PL/pgSQL stored procedures, functions, triggers, and queries Perform advanced performance tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, and query optimisation Implement and manage HA/DR solutions, including replication, failover, backups, and Point-In-Time Recovery (PITR) Lead end-to-end database migrations from Oracle / MySQL / SQL Server to PostgreSQL Ensure database security, access control, compliance, and data governance standards Support and manage cloud-hosted PostgreSQL platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level database team members Required Skills & Qualifications 10+ years of hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL (internals, architecture, performance tuning) Advanced SQL and PL/pgSQL development skills Strong experience in replication, backup/restore strategies, and disaster recovery Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments Experience with cloud‑managed PostgreSQL services (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, GCP Cloud SQL) Proven experience leading database migrations from Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server to PostgreSQL B.Tech / B.E. / MCA or equivalent qualification in Computer Science or related field Must be willing to relocate to Durban, South Africa Good to Have Experience with pgBouncer, Patroni, or other PostgreSQL HA tools Familiarity with DevOps/CI‑CD pipelines involving database deployments Exposure to multi‑cloud or hybrid database environments What We Offer Competitive salary as per industry standards Work permit processing handled by the client (Indian MNC) Relocation support for candidates moving from India to South Africa 12-month contract with renewal opportunity #J-18808-Ljbffr
