Job Description Billing – Senior Tech Lead 5.2.1 Role Summary The Senior Technical Lead – Billing is accountable for the end-to-end technical leadership, architecture, and operational integrity of Bayobab’s wholesale billing landscape. The role owns the technical design, integration, and execution of high-volume billing platforms supporting international voice, SMS, data, signalling, RBM, RMS and value-added services, ensuring accurate rating, charging, invoicing, settlement, and financial reconciliation. Operating at the intersection of Network, Mediation, Finance, Revenue Assurance, EVA, and external partner ecosystems, the role acts as the technical authority for all billing-related solutions. This includes defining and governing billing architecture, leading complex system integrations, enforcing non-functional requirements (scalability, resilience, performance, security), and providing technical support. The Senior Technical Lead – Billing is responsible for translating commercial and operational requirements into robust, auditable, and automation-enabled billing solutions, while actively reducing revenue leakage, billing disputes, and operational risk. The role provides hands‑on technical leadership to internal teams and vendors, ensures compliance with enterprise architecture and regulatory standards, and drives continuous improvement of billing accuracy, controls, and operational efficiency across Bayobab’s business. 5.2.2 Responsibilities Produce, review & approve the designs (HLDs, LLDs) and development for new billing capabilities, enhancements, and integrations. Translate business and commercial requirements into technically executable billing solutions. Lead and manage software development teams. Guide project teams on technology strategy related to coding practices, continuous integration, and automated deployment. Including hands‑on guidance to development and configuration teams. Write/review technical documentation and create detailed reports. Ensure adherence to non‑functional requirements including performance, scalability, security, and recoverability. Support testing phases including system testing, integration testing, UAT, and billing reconciliation testing. Be hands‑on and engage in coding to help the team develop the solution and solve all surfacing problems. Identifies and removes technical impediments. Analyse system requirements and ensure billing accuracy. Define interface contracts, schemas, data validation rules, error handling, and reconciliation mechanisms. Ensure idempotency, data lineage, and traceability across end‑to‑end billing flows. Ensure compliance with software development standards and processes. Ensure platforms follow the standard security, architecture, compliance & business resilience requirements. Define technical controls to ensure rating and charging accuracy. Implement reconciliation mechanisms between network usage, mediation, billing, EDW, and finance outputs. Support root‑cause analysis of billing discrepancies, revenue leakage, and partner disputes. Design proactive monitoring, alerting, and exception management frameworks. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and define permanent corrective actions. Ensure operational documentation is accurate and kept up to date. Support release management, deployment planning, and rollback strategies. Challenge vendor assumptions and ensure Bayobab’s interests are protected. Collaborate closely with Business, Finance, Network, Architecture, and Security teams. 5.2.3 Competencies and Key Skills Deep expertise in wholesale telecommunications billing for voice, SMS, data, signalling, and value‑added services. Strong knowledge of rating, charging, discounting, taxation, invoicing, settlement, and partner reconciliation. Experience with high‑volume, high‑throughput billing environments with strict accuracy and timeliness requirements. Agile Management, Project Management & DevOps experience. Hands‑on experience with mediation platforms and CDR/XDR ingestion, validation, enrichment, and error handling. Strong integration skills across APIs, file‑based interfaces, message queues, and streaming pipelines. Strong understanding of non‑functional requirements including performance, security, disaster recovery, and business continuity. Ability to design and enforce technical controls for billing accuracy and revenue assurance. Experience with release management, deployment planning, and rollback strategies in billing platforms. Strong focus on automation of billing runs, validations, reconciliations, and exception handling. Requirements EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 4+ years of experience in configuration management, infrastructure engineering, or IT operations. Strong experience with CMDB platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Remedy). Familiarity with third‑party software lifecycle and vendor management. Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform). Familiarity with ITIL framework and service management principles. Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Attention to detail and accuracy in managing configuration data. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑compliance environment. Entrepreneurial spirit, self‑driven and ability to motivate a fast‑paced team. Worked across diverse cultures and geographies. Pan Africa multi‑cultural experience is advantageous. IT operations SLA management.
