About The Role We are looking for a detail-oriented and commercially aware Finance Controller / Manager who can independently manage the company’s finance operations with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. As this is a one-person finance department , the successful candidate must be highly self-sufficient, organised, and capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively. You will work closely with senior leadership while ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function, supporting operational efficiency and business growth. Responsibilities – What you’ll be doing Managing the full finance function independently, including daily accounting operations Maintaining purchase ledger activities and ensuring accurate financial record keeping Managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes Performing bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts and entities Preparing monthly management accounts, financial reports, and forecasts Supporting budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities Managing payroll processing for approximately 12 employees Preparing and submitting VAT reports and statutory compliance documentation Supporting invoice factoring and invoice discounting processes where required Managing multi-entity and multi-currency financial operations across international regions Coordinating with external accountants, auditors, and financial service providers Monitoring financial performance and identifying opportunities for process improvements and automation Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, controls, and reporting requirements Taking ownership of deadlines and managing workload priorities effectively Requirements – What we’re looking for We think the right candidate will tick most of the following boxes: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field Professional accounting qualification preferred (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent) Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar finance leadership role Previous experience working within an SME or lean finance team environment Strong experience managing a standalone finance function independently Solid understanding of management accounting, forecasting, budgeting, and compliance Strong experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and bank reconciliations Experience managing VAT reporting and submissions Strong Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills Experience processing payroll and finance administration tasks Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills High attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities Strong written and verbal English communication skills Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced and evolving environment Preferred Skills – Nice to Have Experience working with UK or international businesses Experience with multi-entity and multi-currency accounting environments Familiarity with invoice factoring and invoice discounting Services industry experience preferred Facilities management industry exposure would be advantageous Experience within startup or high-growth SME environments Knowledge of financial process optimisation and automation tools Work Schedule As the client operates internationally, flexibility and strong time management are important for this role.
